Cola

On ‘C.O.L.A.’, Cola lean further into the kind of wiry, carefully assembled indie rock that sounds deceptively relaxed until you realise how much is actually going on underneath it. The title doubles as an acronym for ‘Cost of Living Adjustment’, which feels fitting for a record occupied with uncertainty, nostalgia and the quiet absurdity of modern life. Written collaboratively between Tim Darcy, Evan Cartwright and Ben Stidworthy, the album balances minimalism with subtle excess: crisp rhythms, drifting melodies, chopped-up textures and lyrics that circle around clarity without fully settling on it. Thoughtful, slightly strange and occasionally surprisingly lush, ‘C.O.L.A.’ feels like a band refining their language.
